What the recognition says about a purpose built around making a difference.
When the TPG team arrived at the Corporate Philanthropy Awards, no one knew where we would rank. Then came the announcement:
Just one year after placing seventh, TPG had earned the top spot.
It was an incredible moment and a result worth celebrating. The afternoon offered plenty of other reasons to celebrate, too, as organizations from across the region were recognized for the many ways they support their communities.
Together, those stories highlighted the collective impact businesses can make when they invest in the people and places around them.
For TPG, that commitment has been years in the making. It takes shape through employees giving their time and supporting causes they care about; community partnerships; the TPG Foundation; and Give30, our 10-year commitment to contribute $30 million in time and money to our communities, along with profit sharing for employees, by 2030.
Brad Nantz, CEO, puts it this way:
“Making a difference in our communities is an important part of who we are at TPG. I’m proud of the many ways our employees give their time, resources, and support to help others, and this recognition reflects that collective commitment. Our purpose is to make a difference in our communities through our work and inspire others to do the same. For us, living that purpose means continuing to show up for the communities where we live and work and finding meaningful ways to help whenever we can.”
When the Need Isn’t on the Calendar
Long-term commitments like Give30 create ways to invest in communities year after year. But community needs don’t always follow a plan. Sometimes making a difference means being able to respond when circumstances suddenly change.
This summer offered one example. As wildfires affected communities across the West, including the Spokane area, the TPG Foundation launched an employee giving campaign in support of the American Red Cross. The Foundation matched employee donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, supporting shelter, meals, relief supplies, financial assistance, and other critical needs for people affected by the fires.
The circumstances were different from the long-term work of Give30, but the underlying commitment was the same. Supporting communities means investing consistently in organizations and causes doing important work while remaining ready to respond when needs arise unexpectedly.
Seen together, these efforts give the No. 1 ranking its meaning. They represent time volunteered, causes and organizations supported, long-term community partnerships, and moments when immediate needs called for a response.
And that work continues. Communities change, needs emerge, and new opportunities arise for TPG and its employees to contribute.
The award recognizes how far that commitment has taken us. Our purpose continues to shape where it takes us next.
