Recognition in the insurance industry often reflects more than individual achievement. Behind every award are mentors who invested their time, teammates who solved complex challenges, clients who trusted an advisor, and a community that shaped that perspective along the way.

That reality is clear in the story of Ty Travis, producer and partner out of our Boise metro office. Recently recognized with multiple industry honors, including being named a Rising Star by Insurance Business America, Ty credits the people who shaped his career. From his early days at Post Insurance to helping clients navigate high-stakes claims today, his approach has remained rooted in service, relationships, and the creation of meaningful value.

As part of TPG’s Boise team, Ty reflects the entrepreneurial spirit and client-first mindset that define the office’s culture. We sat down with him to talk about how mentorship, community involvement, and leadership shape a lasting career in insurance.

About Ty

Ty joined Post Insurance in 2018 with no prior insurance experience. After earning his licenses and learning the business from the ground up, he developed under the mentorship of leaders including Patrick Casabonne and Andrew Elam. Today, he helps businesses across Idaho and throughout the United States identify risk, navigate coverage issues, and make informed decisions that protect what they’ve built.

Outside of work, Ty is actively involved in charitable and community organizations, including Rays for Rare. He has also helped support fundraising efforts through events such as the Post Classic and Post Mountain Shootout.

What did receiving these recognitions mean to you?

Ty: It was pretty cool to be recognized, but my mind immediately went to the people who’ve helped me along the way. Patrick Casabonne and Andrew Elam were my original mentors when I got into the industry, and they later became my business partners at Post Insurance. They showed me the ropes. I’ve also been fortunate to work alongside teammates like Kylie, Megan, Tori, Alyshia, and Taylor, who have all played a role in helping us deliver great outcomes for clients.

Both awards recognize leadership and impact. What impact are you most proud of having on your clients and community?

Ty: In the community, Rays for Rare has become really important to me. After becoming a parent, it hit differently to meet families navigating rare diseases and all the uncertainty that comes with them. I can’t imagine being in that position, and it made me want to get involved and help increase awareness and fundraising.

Professionally, I’m proud of helping clients avoid surprises. Many business owners don’t realize their vulnerabilities until something goes wrong. When we identify a risk before it becomes a problem, help them understand their options, and put them in a better position moving forward, that’s a meaningful outcome. The best feeling is when a client calls during a stressful situation, and you can confidently tell them they’re covered and the right protections are in place. That’s what we’re working toward every day.

This kind of recognition is rarely earned alone. What does it say about the culture and values that surround you?

Ty: A lot of that starts with Patrick and Andrew and the culture they built. From day one, there was a focus on doing right by clients and creating real value. The Boise office has always had an entrepreneurial mindset. We were a young agency and a young team, and there was energy around growth and finding ways to stand out. We challenged ourselves to be proactive, create value, and earn every client’s trust. When you’re surrounded by people invested in growing, improving, and helping clients succeed, it pushes you to do the same. That culture has shaped my career in a major way.

What do you wish more people understood about the insurance industry?

Ty: Most people don’t love talking about insurance, and I get it. Usually, when clients call, it’s because something stressful is happening. They’re dealing with a claim, a contract issue, or a coverage question that could significantly affect their business.

What people don’t always see is everything happening behind the scenes. It’s about much more than placing a policy. We’re reviewing contracts, evaluating risks, helping with claims, and identifying exposures clients may not know exist. That’s one of the things I appreciate about being part of The Partners Group. When a client runs into a complicated claim or coverage issue, we have access to resources that can help us find answers. Our claims team is incredible, and we’ve been able to lean on coverage counsel and other specialists when clients are facing difficult situations. Having those resources behind us helps us deliver better outcomes and gives clients confidence that they have a team in their corner. That’s what being a trusted advisor means. It’s helping clients understand their risks and make informed decisions, not just selling a policy.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone early in their career who wants to make a lasting impact?

Ty: Outside of work, get involved in your community and find something you’re genuinely passionate about. It’s easier to give your time and energy when you care deeply about the cause.

In insurance, focus on creating wins for your clients. The reality is that many businesses don’t know they have a coverage gap or an exposure until someone takes the time to look closely. That’s where we can make a difference. One thing I’ve learned is that clients can buy insurance from many different brokers. Our job is to show them why we’re the right partner. We have to bring value, follow through on our promises, and help them make informed decisions. If you keep doing that consistently, the impact will take care of itself.

As our conversation wrapped up, what stood out most wasn’t the recognition itself. It was Ty’s emphasis on the people around him: mentors who invested in his success, teammates who shared the work, clients who trusted his guidance, and a community he cared deeply about serving.

Those themes have long been part of the Boise office’s identity, and they’re reflected in the way Ty approaches his work today. His recognition is well deserved and reflects something bigger: a culture of mentorship, entrepreneurship, and client service that has helped the Boise team thrive for years and continues to strengthen through its partnership with The Partners Group.

Editor’s note: Ty Travis was recently recognized as an Insurance Business America Rising Star and an Idaho Business Review Accomplished Under 40 honoree.
