Get ready – the clock to the Throwdown is ticking

On Wednesday, August 30, TPG will host the second annual TPG Throwdown: Cornhole for a Cause, a spirited, competitive fundraiser open to friends, colleagues, coworkers, and all others at Hillsboro Stadium (4400 NE Century Blvd, Hillsboro, OR). The goal for the 2023 event to reach $100,000 to give to this year’s chosen recipients. To register to play, volunteer, or donate, please visit our Throwdown info page.

“We are so pleased about this year’s beneficiary partners,” says event organizer and TPG Foundation Executive Director Emily-Rose Galati. “We had 37 wonderful organizations apply and we were able to narrow it down to seven. From there, we held panel interviews with each group. After much thought and discussion, the panel selected Sam Day Foundation and A Village for One. All proceeds from the 2023 TPG Throwdown will go to these two non-profits who are helping to support the next generation of Oregonians.”

Sam Day Foundation (SDF) advances research for childhood and young adult cancers and facilitates wellness-centered support and experiences so kids with cancer can survive and live well. SDF plans to use the funds raised at the 2023 TPG Throwdown to hire a development director to take their fundraising to the next level. Pediatric cancer research receives just 3% of national cancer funding and so depends on small non-profits like SDF for additional funding. To date, SDF has donated over $1 million to pediatric cancer research and clinical trials.

A Village for One (AV41) works to unite our community to uplift, support, and heal youth impacted by sexual exploitation and trafficking. They will be opening a second home for female-identifying individuals to better accommodate residents’ range in ages (12 to 26 years old). Their goal with TPG Throwdown funds is to purchase a 12-person van to take residents on outings and get them reacquainted with “normal” day-to-day life – going to doctor’s appts, job shadowing, volunteering, and more as they begin to reintegrate.

About the TPG Throwdown: Cornhole For a Cause
At its first Throwdown event in September 2022, the TPG Foundation raised $70,000 for its two beneficiaries, which was split equally between them. TPG President Sarah Friend said at the time, “We have dreamed of this day for years. Our goal was to raise $25,000 each for our beneficiaries and, through the generosity of our participants, sponsors, and spectators, we were able to better that goal.” In 2023, TPG’s goal has increased to $100,000, to be shared equally between Sam Day Foundation and A Village for One.

Gather your teams of two and register today – the more teams and participation, the merrier. Participants can expect great food, drink tickets, and entertainment. Please help us exceed our goal and have some fun doing it.
