*****
Lori, what do you remember from your early days at TPG?
What I remember most was how fast the company was growing. I was only the newest employee for about a week before someone else was hired, and that pace never really slowed down. I think I was somewhere in the 30s in terms of employee count, which is pretty amazing to look back on now. I came in doing both personal lines and small commercial work. I had experience in both, so I jumped right in and wore a couple of different hats from the beginning.
What are you most proud of from your time here?
It really comes down to the relationships with clients and coworkers. This becomes your second family. Since I’ve shared that I’m retiring, clients have called and even stopped by to ask if there’s anything they could do to change my mind. That’s really meaningful. It tells me I’ve been more than just someone handling their insurance. I’ve been a trusted advisor and a friend. I’m going to miss those day-to-day conversations.
How would you describe your approach to your work?
I’ve always said I’m not a salesperson, even though I’m in a sales role. What matters to me is helping people understand what they have and why they have it. Clients often tell me that no one had ever explained their coverage to them before. That’s what matters: you wouldn’t buy something without understanding it, so why would you do that with insurance? For me, it’s about education and helping people feel confident in their decisions.
Which TPG core value has resonated most with you?
Have fun and live well. I really enjoy being in the office and connecting with people. Even on quieter days, TPG does a great job creating opportunities to meet people across departments. When you genuinely enjoy who you work with, it doesn’t feel like work in the same way. It feels like being part of something.
If you had to sum up your 20 years in one word, what would it be?
Fulfilled. I’ve always felt like I was helping people, and that’s where my heart is. That sense of purpose is what made the work meaningful for me.
Your path to TPG wasn’t immediate. Can you share that story?
I actually turned down the role the first time it was offered. I had only been at my previous job for about a year, and it didn’t feel right to leave at that point. Then the opportunity came back around a few months later. By then, the timing made more sense, and I decided to take the step. Looking back, I’m really thankful it worked out that way. Once I got here, I knew I wanted to stay until I retired. TPG has truly been a second home.
What are you most looking forward to in retirement?
Travel is a big one. My husband is already retired, so he’s been making plenty of plans. We do enjoy cruising, though maybe not quite as many as he’s scheduled this year.
More than anything, I’m looking forward to spending time with our family. We have eight grandchildren, and many of them are involved in sports. I’m excited to be able to show up for more of their games. We’ve also made it a tradition to take them on trips and create photo books afterward, which has been really special. I’m looking forward to continuing that while everyone’s still at an age where they want us there.
I’m also planning to keep singing with my Rock Voices choir. I’m in my third or fourth year with them now, and I really love it. There are around 160 or 170 people singing together, and when we do, you can feel the music all around you. This season we’re doing songs from movies, which is a lot of fun. I love being part of something that feels bigger than anything I’ve done before.
Anything else you’d like to reflect on as you reach this milestone?
I feel like coming to TPG was meant to be. Every time I’ve faced a career change, something better has opened up. I’m really thankful for that, and I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve had here. The relationships, the support, and the culture have all made a difference to me.
