Mark Rose, Director of Sales Operations & Innovation
As TPG’s Director of Sales Operations and Innovation, Mark Rose focuses on advancing the firm’s revenue systems, sales enablement programs, and modernization efforts that improve how we support clients and empower producers. Leveraging decades of experience – including his foundation in employee benefits consulting – he now leads initiatives around data and analytics, sales process design, pipeline optimization, strategic resource deployment, and technology integration. His work ensures that TPG’s sales teams have the tools, insights, and structure needed to serve clients exceptionally well while driving sustainable growth.
1) What do you remember from Day 1 at TPG?
My earliest memory of TPG is meeting with [TPG co-founder] Rod Cruickshank and [Managing Director of People Operations] Karla Thommen and hearing their pitch about how TPG cares for clients and lowers healthcare costs. On the drive back to Seattle from Portland, I told [Baldwin Resource Group colleagues] Bill Meacham and Gus Kiss, “I want to work there. Merger or no merger, I want to be part of what they’re building and how they’re changing the healthcare landscape.” [Ed. Note: BRG merged with The Partners Group in 2011; Mark’s time with the firm began in 2005.]
2) What’s the one work accomplishment from TPG of which you’re most proud? Or, the most important lesson you’ve learned?
Those are two very different things.
The accomplishment I’m most proud of is co-creating the Washington Schools Employee Benefits Pool. We managed more than $500 million in annual premiums for thousands of K-12 employees across the state, and it fundamentally changed how those districts approached benefits.
The most important lesson I’ve learned at TPG is to lead with service – to your colleagues, partners, and clients – before focusing on advancing yourself. That philosophy, which I learned directly from [Executive Vice President of Culture & Integration] Doreen Barnhouse, has shaped my entire career and allowed me to wear many hats here: Consultant, Director of Compliance, Managing Director of K-12 Benefits, Director of Client Experience, and now Director of Sales Operations and Innovation.
3) If you weren’t at TPG in your current role, what would your dream job be?
I’d be a professional recovery coach, helping people reclaim their lives from addiction and alcohol dependence.
4) What’s the TPG core value that currently resonates most strongly with you? (Play well with others, Own it, Be a Champion, Have fun and live well, Be curious)
There are two that have always resonated with me: Be curious and Play well with others. Keep asking: How does this work? What can I contribute? That mindset keeps the work meaningful.
5) What’s one word you’d use to describe your past 20 years at TPG?
Purposeful.
6) Anything else to add?
TPG has given me opportunities I never could have imagined, and I’m so grateful for the people who’ve helped shape both my career and my life over the past two decades.
