Tim Kelly, Managing Director of Group Physician Advisory Services

The healthcare sector is navigating a period of high-stakes transformation. From financial strain to talent shortages, organizations are turning to innovative solutions to adapt. TPG’s Tim Kelly and the GPAS team are at the forefront, using strategic data and adaptive processes to support clients with clarity and purpose.

What are some of the challenges your clients have faced over the past year?

A recurring theme in healthcare has been the need to evolve time-away policies. Many clients are actively redesigning their PTO programs to offer better access and flexibility for employees. In today’s competitive hiring landscape, offering a thoughtful, data-backed time-away policy can make all the difference in attracting and retaining talent.

Financial pressures are intensifying across healthcare organizations. Balancing care delivery with quality outcomes requires creative, strategic solutions. One way GPAS is tackling this is by helping clients optimize their PTO design using BenchmarkMD data. This proprietary tool allows organizations to evaluate how generous or lean their current programs are and compare them against industry benchmarks. The upcoming data report – due out at the end of Q2, with even more robust trend data to follow in early Q3 – will help organizations identify patterns and make better-informed decisions about their benefit strategies.

What are your department’s goals for 2025 and beyond?

The priority is clear: deepen engagement with BenchmarkMD participants. Every participant in the survey receives a one-hour consult with a total rewards leader from TPG. These conversations are designed to spotlight blind spots and uncover immediate areas for improvement in benefits strategy.

Looking ahead to 2026, the team aims to:

1. Partner more closely with a select group of organizations;
2. Help those clients develop multi-year strategic roadmaps for their benefit plans;
3. Build out and manage turnkey strategies to enhance efficiency.

Internally, GPAS is also reassessing its operational structure. By refining roles for more specialization, the team is poised to enhance both product quality and client value.

How has the industry evolved in recent years?

What was once a general awareness of financial strain has crystallized into a widespread imperative for action. Organizations are no longer just talking about challenges – they are feeling them.

The predicted shortage of physicians is now a present-day reality. To stay competitive, healthcare organizations must design benefits that resonate with the next generation of workers, who often place greater value on direct financial incentives over traditional benefits.

How does TPG lead the way in this specialized industry?

BenchmarkMD is a game-changer. In a time when benefit strategies are under scrutiny, this tool delivers quantitative data that leaders can trust. It sheds light on what decisions healthcare organizations are making – and what they should be doing differently.

The power of data gives HR professionals the insight they need to advocate for change and align leadership on the best path forward. Good data focuses a powerful lens on the analysis.

How is your team moving the needle on TPG’s goal to “make the complicated easy” for our clients?

GPAS sits in a unique position. TPG is nimble – able to pivot faster than large competitors – yet through our partnership with C2 Solutions, we offer a robust suite of capabilities. That balance of agility and strength allows us to deliver fast, relevant solutions that other firms simply can’t.

What excites you about TPG’s future?

We’re growing quickly, but with purpose. Even amid expansion, the team is committed to maintaining TPG’s cultural DNA and supporting new employees in meaningful ways.

One particular highlight is the Give30 campaign. It’s inspiring to know we’re halfway to our goal of raising $30 million by 2030 to support our communities. That mission matters.

You were recently added to the TPG Foundation board – how has that experience been?

It’s been both fun and humbling. Engaging with the missions of our beneficiary organizations offers a deeper appreciation of their impact – and their necessity. It’s been sobering to learn about the significant need for philanthropy and assistance in our communities.

Finally, our core values are deeply ingrained in everything we do at TPG. Which core value is currently resonating with you?

For me, it’s always to be curious. I’m curious by nature – if you’re not growing, you’re dying. I bring that lens to every interaction.
